2022 Bellbrae Estate ‘Bells’ Syrah

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes

Each Bellbrae Estate wine is named after a famous surf break in the Bells Beach area along our iconic Surf Coast region. Consistent with our cool climate style of Shiraz, this Syrah has a dense fruit core and is soft on the palate. Black cherry and dark currant abound with hints of vanilla softened from maturation in new and one-year-old French oak. The tannins are silky and balanced giving this wine structure to cellar well for at least 10 years from vintage.

Production Notes

Hand picked in the cool of a March morning and placed in the cool room overnight. 20% kept as whole bunches, the remaining de-stemmed into an open fermenter with 2% Viognier for co-fermentation.Pressed to new (20%) and used French oak hogsheads for malolactic fermentation and 9 months of elevage. Bottled February 2023.
